June 17–18, 2025 | Whitehorse, Yukon
MCI Canada’s recent familiarization tour to the Yukon was a resounding success! Over two immersive afternoons, our guests experienced the warmth, creativity, and unforgettable hospitality that make the Yukon an ideal destination for MICE events. From cultural storytelling to hands-on art and wildlife encounters, here’s a look back at our journey.
Tuesday, June 17: Culture, Creativity & Community
The tour kicked off with the morning board meeting, hosted by the Kwanlin Dün Cultural Centre (KDCC), where the YCB team greeted the group and set the tone for the experience ahead. The YCB Host team was supported by the Klondike Visitors Association’s Executive Director, Ricky Mawunganidze, who offered more insight into the Dawson City experience.
The first site visit took us to Air North, Yukon’s Airline, where we toured the facilities with Ben Ryan, CCO, and the Air North team, after enjoying a delicious lunch catered by Kit’s Kitchen—a perfect start to any Yukon experience.
In the afternoon, we stepped into the past at the MacBride Museum of Yukon History, with stories and tour led by Executive Director, Patricia Cunning.
Followed by a colorful and interactive session at Lumel Glass Studio led by Lu and her crew. Here, 17 guests had the chance to create their own glass art then join an industry reception to network and learn about all aspects of living in Yukon. With over 50 attendees, the event featured locally inspired food, drinks, and heartfelt speeches from John Streiker, Minister of Tourism, Kirk Cameron, Mayor of Whitehorse and Eddie Rideout, YCB President.
Wednesday, June 18: Nature, Wellness & Northern Flavour
The second day began once again at KDCC with the morning meetings for the MCI team. By late morning, we were joined by Eduardo Lafforgue, Director of YG Tourism and Culture, who continued to share valuable insights about Yukon’s potential as a meetings destination.
Lunch at KDCC, catered by Takhini River Ranch, was locally sourced meal of arctic char and a Haskap dessert was a hit and a great precursor to the cultural journey that followed.
Guests took part in the “Transformations Along The Chu Níikwän” river walk, a meaningful and guided walk from KDCC to Rotary Park with Amber Berard-Althouse of the Land Heals. This experience deepened everyone’s connection and understanding to the land and stories of the Yukon River.
Next, we headed to Eclipse Nordic Hot Springs for a site tour of this stunning wellness retreat, followed by a highlight of the trip: a visit to the Yukon Wildlife Preserve (YWP). Guests explored the preserve, encountered lynx up close, and enjoyed dinner in a unique cabin overlooking the moose enclosure.
The day wrapped up at YWP with a perfectly matched pairing of local flavours: a tasting of northern-inspired craft spirits from Two Brewers/Yukon Brewing alongside a thoughtfully curated, flavourful dinner by Wandering Bison—a delectable finale to an unforgettable two-day experience.
